For starters, I'm actually writing this post a good five and a half years after our trip. This blog brings back fond memories of our trip and to be unable to complete it would be a travesty! How I can remember that long is thanks to Google Timeline, a very effective platform to remember to the day what activities we had gone through.
Day 28
This day represented a drive away from the outskirts of civilisation to a shopping belt and back to the outskirts again. Let's dive in.
Travel Distance - 357km (4h 20min, including R&R)

Travel Distance - 357km (4h 20min, including R&R)
From: Te Anau - Twizel
This stretch, as you can see, looks almost a full length of the southern section of the South Island. Travelling from Te Anau for a good two and quarter hours, we landed at...
Pak n Save Queenstown (Supermarket)
Yep, a good supermarket to restock and a rare time that we revisted the same one. We reckoned that this would allow us to replenish for our stay in Twizel.
Hikari Sushi (Restaurant)
And making time for lunch, we dropped by a Japanese restaurant in which we had a very healthy vegetable-based meal.
We then left our pit stop where we spent much time flanking the Kawarau River and subsequently, Lake Dunstan before navigating uphill through the mists to land at...
Lindis Pass Viewpoint
This was a nice chilly place to stretch our legs and to gaze upon the very nice background of misty mountains in the background. Refreshing lovely!
Continuing along the SH8 for another 60+ km, we opened up to long stretches of straight road where I could just finally put the foot to the pedal, finally bringing us to...
Twizel
Mountain Chalets Motel (Accommodation)
We plonked ourselves at this loft-type habitat, using this as our base for the next 3 days, 2 nights. It was a pleasant stay in a wood-based accommodation with a sufficient amount of space for the children to roam around.
Day 29
This was a day of rest and relax after a prior day of packed with travelling.
Distance travelled: 57km
From: Twizel - Lake Tekapo
Lake Tekapo
Tekapo Springs (Place to visit)
Nothing like nice hot pools to keep warm on chilly days. This was the first wet area since the Te Anau public swimming pool and it was nice for the children (and ourselves) to hang out. The mountain view was just breathtakingly splendid. Made us wonder whether we should have stayed in the vicinity instead :)
Day 30
We decided to visit a tourist attraction, a place my wife and I visited during our honeymoon in 2008. This time round, with two kids in tow, went back to The Hermitage.

The short trip allowed us the luxury of many vantage viewpoints of the scenic Lake Pukaki.

The short trip allowed us the luxury of many vantage viewpoints of the scenic Lake Pukaki.
Lake Pukaki
There's a great viewing point at the southern most tip of Lake Pukaki. This is followed by ample views from the road, flanking the west side of the lake, of the mountains located at the northern side.
The Hermitage (Place to visit)
The Hermitage (Place to visit)
The Hermitage is a huge compound with accommodation and attractions that obviously targeted folks such as ourselves. The children managed to tuck into some fancy food that they regaled on (read ice cream) while we had a great view of Mount Cook that gave us an optimal view from where we were seated while having our lunch.
Sir Edmund Hilary Planetarium (Place to visit)
Sir Edmund Hilary Planetarium (Place to visit)
We did manage to squeeze in some time to check out the Planetarium. This marked our first movie since we landed in NZ so we indulged by kicking back to enjoy the panorama before us.
