We stayed at Lake Hawea Holiday Park from 24 Nov to 28 Nov 2016 on our way southward. This was one of our better places to stay. It provided the largest expanse of space of our trip and I daresay even the holiday park area is as good as a place of interest in itself.

Review of Lake Hawea Holiday Park
Our 7th accommodation during our 2 month NZ road trip. We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of November.
This was our first camping ground location of our NZ stay, though we stayed in a self-contained cottage (C3) for 4 days. There was an incredibly huge expanse of space for our kids to run around - a small forest, a playground, a very windy lakeside...simply wonderful to simply roam.
Stargazing is a blast at night 'cos the surrounding is incredibly dark. It's located on the outskirts of Lake Hawea town and is a perfect gateway to Wanaka that's a 20 min drive away.
Our unit itself gives lots of room with 2 bedrooms complimented by a wide kitchen and full-size fridge.
While generally well maintained, the living room could do with an upgrade of the sofas and TV.
Do not expect a change of towels on daily basis. Technically, Wi-fi is free if you're good with 30 minutes a day or 100MB (whichever you reach faster) though a paid option is available.
